WE WANNA RECORD YOU
Drop Site Studio specializes in working with artists, whatever the genre - We only take on clients that we feel would be a good fit here. Drop Site specializes in acoustic or electric singer/songwriter demos/EPs/LPs as well as band/group tracking. The staff here at Drop Site loves all good music! ....especially soul/blues/R&B/funk/jam/jazz/classical/rock and anything groove oriented.
Our sound stage (recording room) sounds awesome with a live group recorded all at once (this usually only applies to groove oriented music, jazz/funk/etc. or acousitc jazz or classical music)
WORK THE NUMBERS
Drop Site Studio staff are willing to work with any budget and honestly, if we like your music we are more likely to wanna record you. Drop Site is a start up recording studio (opened Jan 2010) we are looking for a new client base to spread the word!
RECORD AND MIX
Drop Site Studios will not only record your project but we'll mix it too! (What's the difference? Recording is the art of getting sounds onto tape (Pro Tools), the musicians job is to have sick songs and perform them well - nice instruments help) Mixing, the last step before mastering, is where the engineer takes all the tracks recorded and adds EQ, compression, reverb/delay, effects(Plug-Ins) and blends them to sound the way the artist wants it, and also a way that will translate well to all speakers. The mixing process has many steps and subjective elements and the artist is encouraged to be here for the mixing process.
But, what about masterting? Does Drop Site do mastering? No, believe it or not mastering a track (or bunch of tracks - whole album) is another art form that requires different equipment (high end mastering housing has $200,000 in gear just to master a track - no joke!) and different skill set from a recording/mixing engineer. The mastering engineer puts the 'mixed' track though all their gear and fine tunes the waveforms, sometimes adding EQ or slight compression - it's totally subjective but the best mastering engineers in the country have made a career out this final process. A good anaology for mastering a track is imagine if you are waxing your car, mastering is "like the final buffer applyied to make it shine!" If you read all this and are wondering - Yes, if you come in to Drop Site to record/mix you MUST budget for mastering your record - otherwise it's not a finished product.
